Meet the founder and director of Global Prep, Mariama Carson, a bilingual educator in Indianapolis, Indiana. Carson has received numerous honors during her career of 18 years as a teacher and administrator in Indianapolis. She has been awarded the Milken National Education Award, valued at $25,000 and known as the “Oscar” of teaching, and has been named Transformational Educator at Indiana University-Purdue University (IUPUI). In 2013 she has received the Student Success Grant from United Way of Central Indiana, valued at $242,000 to implement innovative school practices that increase student learning at Snacks Crossing Elementary, where she served as principal.
Carson is the most recent recipient of the highly competitive Education Entrepreneur Fellowship, a grant from The Mind Trust that allowed her two years to fully develop Global Preparatory Academy, which will open its doors on August 1, 2016.
Carson believes that all children deserve to be educated in a high quality school that enables them to compete on a global stage. As a mother of a young daughter, she believes that parents should join partner with their child’s school to ensure that their children can reach their full potential. Global Preparatory Academy unites the community around the concept that to strengthen each child at any age, “it takes a whole village.”
